Grow Cambridge CIC: a new chapter for the community farm in Abbey

Grow Cambridge CIC is now officially up and running, a newly formed organisation created to take forward the previous CoFarm site as a thriving, community-led growing space. Grow Cambridge is a partnership between Abbey People and Cambridge Sustainable Food, bringing together neighbourhood organising, food justice, volunteering, and practical delivery.

We’ve received welcome support from Cambridge City Council, which gives us the springboard we need to really get going this year and get seeds in the ground, so the farm can start producing in its very first season under the new partnership. It’s a brilliant boost at exactly the right moment, and we’re grateful for the Council’s commitment to community food growing and local resilience.

Most importantly, the farm continues to be powered by people. Our amazing volunteers meet once a week, bringing energy, care, and a steady determination to make things happen. We’ve already had a milestone moment: the first broad beans are in the ground. It might sound small, but it’s the kind of step that marks the start of something bigger.

Looking ahead, our focus is on developing the farm for the community and with the community: a place where people can learn, connect, and take part in building a healthier local food system. As the season progresses, we’re aiming for produce to support Abbey Food Hub, CSF’s new community café ‘ The Arbusry, and other social food projects across the city — helping fresh, local food reach the places where it can make the biggest difference.

If you’d like to get involved, whether you’re a seasoned grower or completely new, we’d love to welcome you. This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to growing a farm that truly belongs to the people of Cambridge.
